    The message reads:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these instructions.

The BIOS is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact system vendor or visit window for an Updated BIOS..."

I think it is pretty obvious that it is telling me to update my BIOS. Why would this happen over night thought? It was working fine yesterday. My other question is that am I going to be able to update my BIOS from safe mode?

Is there a better way to update my bios that visiting that website? Its a T400.

This is the link you need for the updated T400 BIOS.

Personally I prefer updating via the bootable CD-ROM method than the Windows Update Utility, just download the ISO version and burn the image on to a blank disc. Restart the machine and when the ThinkPad logo comes up press F12 then select the CD/DVD-ROM drive. Follow the instructions carefully and it shouldn't take more than 5 mins for the flash process to complete.

Well it sounds like doing it from a bootable CD is my only option. I put my computer to hibernate over night. I turned it on this morning and it gave me a blue screen telling me to update the BIOS.

Everytime I turn it on now it tries to resume from Hibernate so it is not completely off? Also I think I need to download the iso file off that link and burn it to a CD(DVD?) and then boot to it on my T400?

How do I back up the BIOS first? Is it even worth it at this point?

Okay... I think it worked. I am up and running again with no blue screen. How do I check to see if I am running the updated BIOS?

You need to access the BIOS for the version number which you can access by pressing F1 when the ThinkPad logo starts up.

Alternatively if you're using Windows you can go to System Information and check the BIOS Version/Date field and compare. The latest for your model is Version 3.19/3.17 - 2010/08/09
