i would like to hook an external blu-ray player to this laptop. will i be able to watch blu-ray movies on this laptop with the T2500 cpu and ATi X1400 128mb gpu? is it worthwhile watching a blu-ray on this setup. i've never watched a blu-ray before, but i'm hoping its much clearer than dvd :D

edit:could a mod please add blu-ray playback to the thread title, i forgot to add it :/

I wonder how you would hook up an external blu-ray player to the laptop.

Two things you would definitely need: (1) a blu-ray drive and (2) blu-ray movie player software. For the latter, you may consider a WinDVD or PowerDVD application version compatible with your OS, which I assume to be Windows XP.

Behind those two things, you need a CPU and/or GPU fast enough (PowerDVD, for one, is capable of decoding blu-ray using software running on the CPU, without GPU assist), plus at least 4GB RAM and a "good" display for an enjoyable experience. I doubt that your T60 configuration provides enough power for blu-ray viewing. Yes, blu-ray is "much clearer" than DVD, but likely not on your T60. You can put together a "solution" that works, but it may not be worthwhile.

I think it's something to do with the Blu-ray. When I had my R60 with the T7400, Blu-ray playback ran the CPU 95-100%. If I ripped and re-encoded the same video at 1080p, during playback CPU usage was between 30-40%.
