Who wants to bet that my laptop will not ship out this week Wednesday as promised? I mean... its not like there isn't the track record of prompt Z60 shipments or anything like that . I wonder if mid-March or April might be a better estimate of when I get my Z60m.

I'm going to go ahead and say no. I'm sure they will get it to you, but who knows when
I cancelled my z60t order and place another today with the bundle deal they have going on that is supposedly in stock. The web page is shouting and screaming " Buy Today, Ship Today," so I'm real interested in seeing that happen. Order was placed early in the morning, so who here thinks my order will ship today? -

What really bugs me the most is the lying involved with this. IBM knows how many z60m's they pump out per a given amount of time. IBM has been shipping large batch orders of Z60m and T60 (yes, t60) to large companies. Logistically they know how consumer orders fit in between the business orders, yet somehow they will not give even a remote accurate shipping date.
The only reason I can come up with is a bait and switch type of deal, except without any switch. Its setup where you think you can hold out for that 2-3 weeks, then it switches status to "packing" and you are like "holy cow" its coming soon. Little do you know, is that packing was a freaking joke all the time, and the order is still not going through. It was just another part of the process to get you to hold onto your order just a little longer and not cancel.
The whole part that bugs me is there is noone else in this market that I can switch to for the quality I want. Apple might be decent, but there is almost no DIY support down the road. They also have insanely short return periods, and mandatory restocking fees.
Makes you wonder how all these other companies are able to release products *gasp* WHEN THEY SAY THEY WILL.
Look at Apple. They announce, and the next day stores are filled with the new products. Another aspect is the shipping. IBM is insanely backlogged to move things through the states. Apple for example has the nifty IP distribution through fedex where they can pump out an entire shipment 1 day, and 2 days later it is at your door from China.
Look at Dell. They have a shipping process that tells you a certain time period, and almost always it is spot on, or sooner than expected.
I really don't think IBM will ever be a big consumer player ever again in this market. Who cares about fancy perks on a laptop if you can never recieve the item or put your hands on it? They are putting businesses first, but when it cycles back, if they screw over some future network admin who tried to order something from them, but got put on hold for 3 months, think he would suggest to his company to buy from IBM? No, that would be insane because he knows that they screwed him over in the past.
Another key point is this was never just a Lenovo takeover problem. The slow shipment stems out in almost every other aspect of thier large business. Slow power-pc processor shipments to Apple over the years, and making them switch to Intel when it was starting to hurt their own sales. And now slow shipments of the powerpc chips in the new gaming systems causing backlogs for both Sony and Microsoft. -
That's a real shame. This kinda reminds me about something I heard about ATI and how they ship their products really late.
You want to love them but you really can't. -
Who's Kevin??
-
well, dell is famous for offering good prices on camera equipment, then not shipping it for months. of course, they don't manufacture the equipment, so they might have an excuse beyond waiting for a good wholsale deal.

Any bets on this joke of a company making me wait 3 months to get a laptop from them? Not enough of THESE to get the point across to them
I am going to hold out to see if this ever comes, just so I can tell the horrible story of the experiences I have put up with IBM, and make sure everyone knows to buy something else if they want to get it in any reasonable amount of time.

lol I am just going to freeze the credit card tommorow, and send the ram back that will NEVER be able to get used because THERE IS NO FREAKING LAPTOP TO PUT IT INSIDE OF -
They never asked for my free RAM back and I never got billed for it. -

Called up IBM today, and was told "well its in the last stage of custimization and should have shipped out. It will probably be out tommorow or Friday". BUT IT HAS BEEN PACKING FOR 4 WEEKS!?!?!
Needless to say, I don't trust this scummy company one bit anymore, and don't put any trust in the possiblity of shipment anytime soon -
Seeing your frusteration make me feel much better about my decision to cancel my Z60m and get a refurb unit. -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
Well the laptop I tried to cancel shipped out now (might arrive tommorow if I am reading the UPS thing right), so anyone want this other unit? Otherwise I may or may not pop her open to do a mini review before I send it back

End of week friday came, and computer that was "on the dock" is still packing. The sales guy had no answer because the computer was saying the same thing. He then suggested for me to escalate the problem and file a formal complaint. So now I have someone from IBM calling me on monday next week.
Christ what a horrible experience -
well, I enjoy the ongoing drama and soap opera though, it's gonna be kind of sad when your notebook arrives and there's no more stories to tell.

In addition to keeping us posted as things progress, you should really write a thorough account of your purchasing experience when all is said and done.

No doubt, when/if I finally get this thing, I plan on typing out a letter to send to the CEO and other reps to get some voice heard that this insane wait period is pretty messed up.

Hoping so, maybe I can recieve it during the summer for next semester :-/

You're waiting quite a long time already, as I believe your signature...
Are you studying a specific course, or....? -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
I got this to be able to work on programming and stuff in class and while at school (since I commute).
Odd thing, just saw a letter that came from Lenovo today. It says that If I don't contact them by 2-23-06, by FTC regulation they must cancel my order because of the delay. -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
muahahahaahha. My day might have finally come. Got a call from my international relations rep at about noon, and was told the unit was shipped. Now lets just hope it gets here without any defects
-
Send a letter to Bill Amelio, Lenovo's new CEO, and tell him in detail about your experience. Heck, I'd even reference this thread.
Post your impression of the system and let us know if it was worth the wait.

If the first system was anything like this one, it should be. Hears praying that there are no dead pixels (if there are some, please be on the edge, lol )

But, yes, that was one of the reasons for me to buy a new notebook... and GRRRRR... believe it or not, as I speak my M key broke...
Toshiba and keyboards.... -
How long does this shipping normally take?? -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
My last laptop that I tried to cancel took 2 days to get from china to my house.
This is what I got so far. Hoping that the brokerage thing isn't still happening and it passed through.
