I'll try to get my cracked case repaired.:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=264367

This requires a "nice" CSR iin a good mood. What time is best to call ? And what day ?

I'm thinking right at 8AM EST when they open, before they've had a chance to bee pissed off by rude customers.

    Any opinions ?

I'll say that I noticed that the base plastic had become loose and developed a crack around the power supply input, and that this might negatively impact the motherboard/connectors in the future.
    How is it ??

How do I make sure I get them ? I just call the lenovo support center, and it automatically routes me to the correct center.

If they open at 8AM EST, then I think the best time to call would be 8:30-9:00, give them a little time to settle in before receiving calls. :D I don't think most people would like to receive a call as soon as they sit at their desk. :p

As for the story, don't need to make up something too exaggerated, just be honest since you really didn't do anything to it and it cracked on its own. For my palmrest, it's the same thing, I told them that I understand discoloring is normal for a palmrest, but the fact is that the area where it was discolored wasn't caused by wear and tear, it was cause by one of the LCD rubber legs when the LCD cover is closed, so this has to be some kind of paint defect in that particular area.

    1-800-426-7378 ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-4HWSE3)

they should be open 24/7. This is the only number I even call.

    I have gotten:

    1) hard drive swapped out (marble dropping noise)
    2) battery swapped out (not getting the correct WHs)
    3) drop test thing fixed
    4) keyboard swap after a button popped out
    5) my brothers LCD swapped (installed crooked, a few mm lower on the right)
    6) my brothers MB swapped (unstable with ram upgrade)
    7) new palm rest w/ IBM logo (first one didnt fit right, neither did the replacement but i worked around it - I listed this because the palm rest is usually not covered)

never had any issues when calling these guys

story sounds good. maybe you could go with

"the hinge some how got stuck and i tried to pry it open and then these cracks happened, please change out lower casing and hinges"

that's what I used when I gave mine the drop test and the hinge broke and the bottom casing of the t61 had a crack in it.

    good luck

    wearetheborg,

I've responded to your post on the IPS display on the Lenovo forum and suggested you call service and order another panel. Thanks for sharing. Noted your parallel posts on ThinkPads.com too...

    With regard to these cracks....

Did you purchase the system new or used? If used, were the cracks in it when you purchased it?

If you've owned the machine since day 1, and have always treated it well, and can conceive of no reason why the base might have a crack, then please do call service and state your case honestly and with conviction.

Good service, based on a policy of fairness shouldn't depend upon which rep answers your call.

    Mark

I wish this could be true in the real world Mark, you can set a policy, but there are so many "factors" that can influence the outcome, not every rep has the same knowledge and experience. Dealing with human is not exactly the same as dealing with a robot.
