I would like to ask/talk about solutions for a single drive laptop such as T61 for example.

I want to be sure that my work won't be lost. Backups are ok, but not the best solution.

1st what I've thought is to use 2nd hdd using ultrabay hdd adapter and make a RAID1 with 2 hdd, but disadvantage for this is that I have take out the DVD drive, and even I do not use it often I still would like to be able to use it. (btw, is there an external Ultrabay that I could use with this internal DVD drive?)

2nd would be to have a software that constantly synchronizes my work files with some remote location. Is kind of backup.. but a little better.

    Anything else?

    Please advice, thank you.

Your title of the thread is a bit misleading.
