Does anyone know when the best deals/offers for Thinkpads are in Australia?
Lenovo's having some $400 discount thing now and even up to $700, is this the best time for a deal?
And does anyone know how to get the laptop with Linux on the Australian website? The links just lead me in circles.

$400 to $700 off is a great deal, although there are usually similar deals during the end of financial year sales aswell, my suggestion to you is if you are in need a of laptop right now, buy it. I have found that the cheapest way to get a Lenovo in Oz is through the Lenovo website as most resellers seem to be a little more expensive in their asking price.
I know that for my next Lenovo I'll be looking at importing one from overseas to avoid our inflated aussie market
I beliebe all our Aussie Thinkpads are pre configured to XP or Vista, though I could be wrong, might be just a matter of calling them to find out.
What models are you interested in? -
Palmag, I'm interested in the T61p with the T9300 processor. It's amazing that they charge about $2000 more for the T9500! Granted the screen is better, but still.. It's robbery.
I think the T9300 one at $2899's not too bad. What do you think about it?
About the OS thing, I gave them a call and asked about the Linux Pre-installed offer, and it's a lie! So I guess I'll have to pay more for Windows just to uninstall it. :S
I've read in another thread that there are probable model updates coming in soon(June?), so I thought this was a good time to swap, given that the new models would be hella expensive. I don't really NEED a laptop now, but the deals aren't bad. What kind of RAM is most compatible with the T61p? Is it cheaper to buy it from a third-party?
When is Lenovo's end of financial year? December?
And where are you importing yours from?
Oh, do you know if Lenovo offers student discounts for tertiary students? -
The T61p is a great choice, @ close to $3k sounds pretty expensive for our market, I think for that kind of cash you may be able to pick up a cheaper laptop with comparable features or more, then again, it wont be a Lenovo.
To be honest with you I have had no experience with Linux so I can't really comment on it, although I would take XP over Vista any day.
I Think I've read the same thread, the new models will defiantly push the prices of the lower models further down when they are made available, as with all technology early adopters will always pay a premium. since you don't need a laptop straight away, if I were you I would wait for the June-July sales or simply wait for the new models to come out and pick up a bargain on the old stock, as far as I remember they were selling T60's close to $1200 AUD at their last model run out sale - mind you it was a feature strip down T60.
In regards to ram, I think as long as its from a known and reputable company you should be OK, and definetly third party is the way to go in terms of price, you have no idea how easy it is to upgrade mem, maybe some one with a T61p can opine? - I've heard the turbo mem option is a bit of a hassle.
I don't think Lenovo give student discounts outside the US - Canada, I would like to know aswell if us aussies are entitled to it?
Someone on this forum pointed me to this website http://www.euclidcomputers.com , I haven't used them yet so I can't comment on reliability
But eventually when I import it'll be through here, may be you can try them out and let me know?
I will defianlty be importing a "T" series in the near future - next year hopefully or when my R60 gives up the ghost. -
They've extended their sale to the 23rd of April. Which means they've still got stock. And they've agreed to throw in a carry case for the heck of it. Which means they're starting to get desperate.
Well, if the June/July sale is a stripped down T61p, I'd rather buy one now with the T9300 processor and all it's glory. The problem is that if I wait, I might not be able to buy the T61p I want; but I'll get a better deal if I wait.
Oh, bloody hell. Help! :S -
As I always tell my friends, there will always be a better deal around the corner, specially as new technology replaces the old, Zephyrus17 its your money and you can buy whenever you like! I doubt they would sell a strip down T61p since the T61p is already a "performance" model with part well above the standard T61.
Look at this way, the T61p will not get any maore expensive but cheaper as the weeks go by.
But please don't let me influence you in any way, if you feel you'll miss out on the sale, by all means go out and get one! -
I think I shall wait, as most of my friends suggest that as well. Worse come to worse, I'll just hunt for another brand/model.
Thanks, anyway, for your help. -

Woot! \o/
The deals are getting better! Link
I'm so glad I waited. I think... I shall wait some more. *greed*
