So my hard drive is running a bit hot going up to 60 in some instances in the y580. So I'm wondering what's the best cooling pad for it? What improved temperatures I will be seeing and where do you place the fans? If you have pics that will be great. Thanks.

Hope this helps -
i checked those links but im still undecided between the U2 and U3.

I have the u3 for a 15 inch laptop. I wish I had gotten the u2. The footprint of the u3 is dramatic and you should expect it to be on your desk at all times.
I get about 3-6 degrees Celsius cooler using the cooler.
Given the choice I would go with u2 for a 15 inch laptop. The extra bulk of the u3 is noticeable and unnecessary for this size laptop, however for a bigger laptop it would be perfect. The third fan doesn't add much cooling power. Also, you can always get extra fan clips online
Go with the u2.

Where should I place the vents for the u3?
-
Wherever the vents are for your laptop.

I believe theres 3 for the y580 so just put it there? So it would be better to get the u3?
-
That's right! Put them under the vents that suck in air.

Again, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm using the U3, and it is excellent for cooling while sitting on a desk. As stated, you can barely fit it into a backpack, so it's basically a desktop docking station sort of thing. Nevertheless, temperatures seem to drop by 2-8C, which is very nice. I can game for a while and the keyboard doesn't even feel warm.

what temps are you getting while gaming for long hours?
-
U2 works great, fits perfectly under the Y580 as I've mentioned in a previous thread. The U3 is ridiculously large.

I was just wondering if the notepal xslim would be any good for this laptop, im kinda limited on desk space and this seems like a good deal, i just want to make sure it is.

Ca anyone tell me more information about the u3. Much appreciated.

For 15" laptop definitely go with the u2, and optianally get the three fan add-on for $10 if you find that the two fan setup isnt enough. Expect 2-10 degrees cooler, but more like 2-6 degrees.

So for the y580 do you prefer the U2 then the u3? And just get the fan add on?
-
ok so far im thinking of just getting the u2 with an extra fan.
-
That's right

I had the U3, returned it for the X-Slim I like it allot more.

It fits perfect. Small, has great wind flow and can be elevated or left flat. Symmetrical and the fan has a great even flow under it.
I do wonder how much any fan actually makes of a difference in cooling though. -
I'm experiencing really no difference in temps with the U3, at least for the HDD. I'm still getting high 50's, which isn't a good sign. I'm moving my HDD to the ODD bay tomorrow.
I have gamed for a couple hours, so for several hours my HDD temps have consistently been in the high 50's. Should I worry about harddrive failure? -
You guys do realize that 60C isn't very hot for an i7 right? Those chips are rated for up to 95C (whereupon they promptly shut down) and can safely hit 85C.

im getting around 53 degrees for my HD and 48 for CPU while gaming on max settings 1080p on fifa 2012 and nba 2k12 using a U3, before i was getting around 58 for my hd and mid 50s for cpu..... notice a big difference and it fits quite well its not that big really

What do you think about this cooling pad?
ENERMAX - Product -
I have the U3 and I like it so far. That's not to say I won't return it for the Slim. I do sit in a chair and use it comfortably, by placing a rolled up towel under the front(keep the front two fans elevated. But to test for best cooler, I would need to take my laptop in to Microcenter, put on SWTOR and let it sit for 15 minutes in game and see the temp graph on Speedfan with each cooler. Then I could make a final decision and take it home.
But again, it seems to be working well. Tonight I will get a Speedfan graph and see what I am not seeing in game. Alternatively, I can get 3 large holes cut out where the fans are, and have more direct air blowing on them three intake meshes.
Best cooling pad for y580? And improved temps using cooling pad?
