I've just purchased a W530 with a Hitachi BT10F Blu-Ray/DVD/CD combo read/write drive (believe it supports both single-layer & dual-layer BD writes). I'm really looking to use the Blu-Ray burner for video & data backup. Although I understand this is an open question, what burner/player software are people using for the W530 with a Blu-Ray drive? Will I need specific Win7 drivers for this? Appreciate any help.

Personally, I've got Nero 12 (and I only have a DVD burner, although I'm considering purchasing a Blu-Ray at some point). But you can use almost any software you want. Also, Windows should automatically recognize, download, and install drivers for the drive when it's first installed. This should allow you to back up data without any additional software, only using the built-in Windows tools.

I've been using CDBurnerXP for many years. Free and awesome. (The terms "CD" and "XP" are carry-over from the initial development. The program has been regularly improved and augmented since then.)

Yes, I've used CDBurnerXP for years. It's simple and easy to use. It also doesn't try to take over everything like most paid programs do. Just make sure to uncheck the extra software it's bundled with to help keep it free. Depending on what you're doing, ImgBurn might be another option. It's has unwanted free extras too.
