Howdy all,
I've heard some rumblings that the Intel X3100 integrated graphics on the current generation of Thinkpads is powerful enough to run Beryl in Linux, has anyone tried this? The reason I ask is that I really wanted an x61 (i've made the purchase), and was willing to go without beryl, but now i've been led to believe that I CAN run beryl, which would be nice, not completely necessary, but nice.

I guess that is enough proof for me, but has anyone tried this? Is the performance decent enough?
Thanks

Its overkill for beryl. An intel 915 chip will run that just fine. HOWEVER, currently linux support for the x3100 is lacking. So it may not work. If it does work, I assure you that performance won't be an issue.

even the extreme 2 can handle beryl, it is not the smoothest frame rate but it don't feel bad. I used in a resolution of 1280x1024 and pentium D805

You'll want to run Compiz-Fusion, which is the reintegration of Beryl and Compiz.
As for getting it to run, you'll want Gutsy rather then Feisty if you want less hassle trying to get it to run. I did try that guide you posted about getting Beryl to run in Feisty and it didn't work for me. It's much easier just to install Gutsy and run the bugfix .
As for performance, its pretty good at WSXGA+, no noticeable slow downs for me but I don't have a bunch of plugins installed. -
I haven't gone to gutsy yet, but I plan on doing so for my thinkpad. I'm running feisty right now on my mbp because i'm overtly cautious (although from what i've heard gutsy is pretty much set already, and will be releasing within the next 2 weeks here).
Beryl on Intel X3100 965 GMA? (x61, t61, r61)
