    Benefits of having 2880 x 1620 or 2880 x 1620 for software development?

I am thinking about buying a T550. I am doing software development (not graphics design) and this T550 will be mostly for my work use. I have many thinkpads, and all of them have 1920x1080 screen resolution.

I notice that T550 comes with two higher screen resolutions
    • 15.5" 3K (2880 x 1620) IPS
    • 15.5" 3K (2880 x 1620) I PS Touch Screen
I would like to hear from folks here about the benefits of having these higher resolutions for software development. Are there any?

Can anyone tell me what different viewing experience these higher resoluitons may bring?

    Thanks and regards.

Personally, I'd pass on the touch screen due to the reflections, but that's me. The 3K LCD is nice in theory, but how long can one stare at 211 pixel density screen? For me it's probably not too long. The 3K is IPS, which is beneficial over the TN 1080p screen, but if you can't read it, what good is it? There's always DPI adjustments, but scaling in Windows is an imperfect solution. Of course I've never seen the 3K, so I could be off base.

Personally I use the 3K screen on linux with Gnome it has reallynice HiDPI support
It really is handy for multiple tiling windows (for example I use Android studio half tiled and 2 Terminals tiled on the other side) and still hae crispy readable text and real estate
