My Thinkpad makes beeps when I plug in the power cable and when I use the power button to put it to sleep. I'd like to disable or somehow control them.

    Any ideas?

go under the thinkvantage battery menu. Its one of the options there to disable to the beeping.

And for people like me who don't have ThinkVantage installed, here's another way:

    * Enter the BIOS by pressing F1 during boot when it tells you to press the ThinkVantage button (to access Rescue & Recovery)
    * Go to the "Beeps and Alarms" section and look for the Power related beep setting

And for the heck of it, if you want to disable beeps entirely from within Windows, go into the device manager and select 'show hidden devices' from the 'view' menu. Under the 'non-plug and play drivers' branch, right click 'beep' and choose 'disable.'
