I got my T500 3 days ago. At that time, I immediately found 2 bad pixels(or stuck pixels?) on the screen. It made me upset but I was still trying to live with it. Today, I find 2 more! I don't know whether they are bad pixels or stuck pixels. One is red, one is green, and the other two are kind of grey. Either way, I am very unhappy with it, and I have asked for return.

After 4 phone calls to sales and technical support, lenovo finally agreed to let me return it without 15% fees. By the way, one technician even doesn't know lenovo's own policy. He said there need to be at least 8 bad pixels to ask for a return. Of course I corrected him.

Actually I think the performance of the T500 is great, but I just can't live with such a flawed screen. Here are some questions I want to ask you guys:

    (1) What's the definition of lenovo's bad pixel ? The person on the phone said they will check the computer after I send it back and then return me my money. Is there any chance that they will say that those pixels are just suck there and won't let me return it without a fee?

    (2) Does this happen a lot? I am considering reorder a T400 or T500, but I am not sure whether the LED screens are all of low quality.

    Thanks.

    Bad Pixel

Yes, it happens quite a bit. I've been lucky as I've never had a notebook with any. A couple of my desktop LCDs have them. The don't really bother me.

Since they got rid of the IPS screens, they're all fair to middling in screen quality. The newer screens are brighter than ThinkPads of yore and the LED screens offer a bit better battery life, but the screen PQ is about the same. I'd probably say the outside of the tablet ThinkPads, the WSXGA+ LCD is probably the best screen right now.

Lenovo's policy is that if there are 3 or more dead or stuck pixels, they will replace the screen.

I have never had a laptop with dead/stuck pixels, and my T500 turned up with a perfect screen, so I could be lucky. My brother's 17" desktop monitor has 6 dead pixels though (although it was a very very cheap monitor when we bought it, so it was expected).

Thank you guys. The sales person allowed me to return the machine without restock fees.

I was thinking about replacing the screen only, but I finally decided to return the whole product. Given my bad experience, I feel that having another LED screen is a bit risky. Maybe I am just out of luck.

that's good to hear. a trick for people who have dead pixels and are willing to return it to lenovo. Just tell them that your screen has some sort of discoloration and just say it looks off. for the most part, the rep on the phone will agree to have the laptop sent in.

I had one dead pixel that was right in the middle of a laptop i had. it was annoying but lenovo wouldn't take just one dead pixel so i just told them i had discoloration. i sent it in and came back with a brand new screen.
