How much difference in powerdraw are there between WXGA+ CCFL and LED back lit screen?
I ask, cos the in the NBR's original review, It was mentioned T400 could do 6 hours using 6 cell, while on integrated GPU. That machine had 7200rpm HDD,with [email protected] Ghz.
So far I'm looking at about 4:30 with my T400 (sig), with wifi on, CPU capped to lowest setting, screen also dimmed. Though I still am struggling to get near even 10W. What's more puzzling, is I've tweaked the background apps, and undervoted the 25W P series CPU, where as the review had a 35W CPU. While my HDD are 5400 rpm, should save some power; if anything, my config ought to make it last longer than the review unit.But it doesn't.
On the other hand, if I got 4.5 hours, then how the machine tested lasted that long was beyond me, then at once, I thought that the screen backlight must be the cause. Does the screen really make such a difference?

The newer 7200rpm HDDs use less energy than the older 5400 rpm HDDs
Already done a format? -
Did you clean install or do you still have 90 services and other useless stuff?

The difference between LED and CCFL generally runs between 1 and 3 watts (varies depending on brightness, screen size, etc.).

Quicklite, which wireless adapter do you have (Intel or Atheros)? I have the LED screen, 4GB Ram, int graphics, 5400rpm drive, and also undervolt my P8400 (25W).
Initially ordered my config with the standard thinkpad wireless card (Atheros) and was seeing 4.5 hour battery life under practical use (wireless on, screen 10/15 bars) on Vista 64 Ultimate.
There's a past post indicating the Atheros card still consumes 2W when OFF. Rcently replaced the card with an Intel 5300 off of ebay and I've literally gained an hour of battery life. While in class on a fresh charge, the batt indicator even registered 6hr 18min left, yesterday.
EDIT: I have the 6-cell. -
Hehe, that's still a fact the Atheros crowd doesn't want to aknowledge.

Maybe you have tweaked something that you should not have?

Potstickr, I have the Intel 5100.
@cn_habs, I doubt I've done that.
Today, I managed to get about 5:28 estimate, while on the bus - though that's with wifi turned off. Still not as long as I hoped, but I guess its due to the screen - nothing could be done about that.
The design capacity of the 6 cell is 56.16Wh, somehow the charged capacity is about 59 atm.
Battery, and LED
