I purchased a battery slice 27++ from ebay and am having trouble getting it to charge.

When I plug it in it detects fine, but never goes into a charging state. I've doublechecked the battery options to ensure the current charge is below the charge threshold.

As it is not an official lenovo one I'm suspecting I got a lemon, but just wanted to doublecheck if there is something else I should be doing? This is on a T520 2720QM w/ optimus. It is a fresh reinstall as I'm not a fan of the OEM funk. The Thinkpad power manager is installed, and shows the battery, and doesn't throw up any errors I can see, but just does not charge.

The slice should charge even if my primary battery is not fully charged right? (day to day I leave my primary at 40-50%, only charging it fully when I know I will use it)

Check the settings under battery maintenance in Lenovo Power Manager. You can define the charging rules for the different batteries. I have just checked on my T420s that the bay battery will charge even through the main battery is not full (as defined by my rules under battery maintenance).

Yeah, I've set them to 30-50 for my secondary (the slice) battery. The battery is on 6% at the moment, but does not charge :(

I think the 27+ slice is different, in that it does not have its own charger* and charges off've the laptop.

Well you can buy a seperate charger, but it is not necessary. I thought I read somewhere that it could charge from the laptop but maybe I have been making bad (but not unreasonable?) assumptions.

Ok, fixed. Did not realise you have to use the lock switch to lock the battery to the laptop to enable charging :p

Would have been nice if the web page said it (or had documentation that said it)

I do not have the Slice Battery, but AFAIK, when charging from the laptop itself, you have to choose which battery to charge from Power Manager. If you plug the charger directly into the Slice Battery, I think it would charge only the Slice Battery - but I don't know for sure.

I believe I read somewhere where you need the 135 watt adapter to be able to charge both batteries simultaneously.

I guess you are still talking about the X220 and 19+ slice, as this is not the case for a T520 and 27+ slice

That is exactly it. I was looking for charging port when I realized

    a) there is no charging port on the 27++

    b) you have to "lock it" using a little slider next to eject button.

NOTE: This battery is huge. I installed it on employee laptop as requested but would NEVER get that for myself.
