    I haven't even had the chance to see whether it would fit because the two units aren't in the same location, but...

    ...can I use the 9 cell battery that worked with my old t41p with my new t61?

    There wasn't a 9 cell choice when I bought the t61, only the 7 cell, which is what I currently use. It would be great to be able to use the 9 cell, too, as a backup/replacement.
