I recently purchased Thinkpad T21 Pentium III 900 MHz. It was preinstalled with Windows XP. I formatted the HD and installed Windows 2000. Now I am having problem with the battery level that it shows in Power options.
It says that battery is charged 100% and 1 hour 30 minutes remaining then in the next minute it will show 90% 1 hours 15 minutes remaining then after hardly 10 minutes it will show that battery level has dropped to 2%!!!!
Althought it gives warning and says that battery level is 2% or less but still it works more than half an hour after that. It means that the battery is charged but there is some problem with the power software/driver in windows which is showing wrong information.
I downloaded Power Management software from IBM but still no luck.
Please help me.

Is it a used battery?
Have you downloaded the Battery Maximiser/Power Management software?
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=ibm&lndocid=MIGR-44226
If you go into the Thinkpad configuration -> Power Management -> Battery Information, you can do a battery health check.
What is the full charge capacity and the cycle count?
Maximum design capacity of the standard T21 battery is 38.88 WHr.
From your description, sounds like your battery has less than half the original capacity left.

Thanks for the link man I downloaded the software.
It says that my battery health is in Yellow color and it has been damaged and degraded. It needs reconditioning.
I found out that if I run less CPU extensive programs while using battery then it doesn't dry out quickly. Today the laptop ran 50 minutes straight while I was using the internet with 6 browsers, 2 messengers and a word processor opened.
But yesterday when I was playing game on it (not that comes with windows built-in) then the battery dryed out in hardly 5 - 6 minutes.
Same thing happened when I was using the DVD the other day. -
My T21's battery is dead. Can someone recommend a reliable site where I can purchase one?

Find the part number and look it up on Pricegrabber. Just make sure it is a Lenovo sanctioned battery, not a third party one.
