I expect to purchase a T42 very soon. I am considering the Ultrabay Slim Li Polymer Battery as a means to add a second battery for improved untethered operating time. Is this the only way to have two batteries installed at one time? Does it displace the CD-RW/DVD drive? How does the Ultrabay Slim Li Polymer Battery capacity compare to the standard 6 cell LiIon battery?
Thanks.

Your best bet is to buy the high capacity 9 cell battery that is standard on the T42p. I got mine on sale from www.computergiants.com
for about $90. This gives close to 6hr of use. The bay battery your looking at costs about $170 and only adds a few hours of use and yes it does displace the CD ROM drive and is the only way to have two batteries installed at the same time.

the Ultrabay slim battery is also a good choice depending on your usage. It replaces the CD drive while you are using the battery. The advantage is that the form factor of the PC is unchanged. The 9 cell battery sticks out a bit. Not a huge deal, but in my case, the PC will not fit in by briefcase with the 9 cell, but it's no problem with the Ultrabay slim. I think that the run times are about the same for the 9 cell, or the 6 cell plus the Ultrabay slim.
