I am very interested in purchasing the Core i3 model of the y470. However, I will be using it for college, which means I need at least 4 hours of battery life.

With Wi-Fi on and the screen on 15-20% brightness while typing in a word document and browsing the net, will the laptop last 4 hours?

I have the i7 model and mine lasts 4 hours under similar usage, so I don't see why the i3 version wouldn't.

EDIT: With the Nvidia GPU off, of course.

I have the i7 62 whr battery and I get roughly 6 hours for word document only at around 30% brightness.

I would expect the i3 48 whr battery to last around 4 hours for what you do.

RedxWings, how did you get a 62wh battery? Did you purchase it separately? Because I need the 62wh battery when I buy this but I don't know how to specify that I want it.

It seems like only select models [the high priced i5 and i7s] can get the higher battery.

i3-2310M with 48Wh should gets you roughly 4 hours and a bit over 5 hours with 62Wh battery.

Course if you tweak you power settings you can get about 30+ minutes on top of 4/5 hours depending on the battery you have.

Yeah, in the owner's thread (I think) I read how most people with the i7's had the 62wh battery. But I did see some posts where people were saying they only got 4ish hours with an i7 model. We'll see what happens I guess.

    @ RedxWings

Not true...all early models from direct from Lenovo i3 to i7 had 62Wh batteries mine included which is a i3-2310M model bought from Lenovo Canada.

I've said this before, it seems most retail Y470/Y570's from Amazon/NewEgg with i3 to i5 gets 48Wh batteries.

Does that mean I can't get a 62wh battery no matter what? I planned on buying direct but if it was only early models, then blah. I'm not gonna buy it at all if I can't get the 62wh battery.

There's no guarantee you'll get a 62Wh battery if you buy from direct from Lenovo now. I've heard the i5 models in the US gets 48Wh and I've heard the i5 models in Canada gets 62Wh this is recent.

I think if you're purchasing in Canada there's a higher chance of getting a 62Wh battery directly from Lenovo regardless of model.

In the US however, I'd stay way from the i5 models if you care about battery capacity.

I'm almost certain you'll get a 62Wh battery purchased directly from Lenovo both in Canada and the US.

Let us know how it turns out when the laptops arrives if you're set to order and join us in the Y470/Y570 Owner's Thread.

I'll probably be buying this laptop in the next week or so. I plan on doing a full unboxing video, with many reviews because there seem to be no decent ones on youtube. I'll definitely join the thread also.

Well, models from Lenovo US paints a different picture. I asked others whether or not they had the higher cap battery, those who did usually had the i7 version.

I will be getting my Lenovo Y570 i5 sometime this week from Lenovo.com (Canada) so I will post what battery I happened to get. To be safe I ordered a 'spare' battery with the laptop. The 'spare' batteries are always the higher capacity ones.

I bougth the i3 2310m version Y470 from Lenovo Canada just a month back and it came with the 48 whr battery :(. I did some tweaking though and I'm getting slightly over 5 hours with word and light web usage.

As I expected, I think early adopters on the i3-2310M models in Canada all got the 62Wh battery this is before the i5-2410M version was available in Canada.

Ugh now I looked at the reviews on the Lenovo website, and some people claiming to have the i7 said they had bad, or under 4 hours of battery life. Why is it such a game? Why can't they just put exactly what you get? I'd pay $20-$30 more for the good battery, just advertise it.
