I put my Lenovo R400 on hibernate last night when it was plugged in, at close to full battery. Then I unplugged it and moved it from the library to my dormitory. I went to sleep with the laptop still in its case, unplugged. When I started it up this morning, the battery was dead. Is there a possible reason for this?

    that's strange....

Are you sure your computer was hibernating during the night?

Did you close the lid immediately after you set it to hibernate? An OS setting for lid close might have caught it before it hibernated and put it to sleep. Still, even sleeping shouldn't drain the battery in one night.

This had happened to me a while ago. I think the reason was that when I closed the lid a program was stuck and the computer didn't actually go into hibernate. It was in normal mode waiting for me to press "End Now". The next day it wouldn't boot since the battery was empty.

Same has happened to me with standby.

The LEDs will probably indicate if it's hibernating - just look for that a few seconds after going to hibernate (which you can probably do once you've closed the cover and started putting it away or carrying it).

Well, I meant to say that the battery was completely drained, not a goner. I was able to recharge it.
