I'm guessing you need to buy a new battery. ;)

Hello ZaZ, It is 7 months old. But warranty is not valid in my country. So, either I have to get it fixed some how or I have to buy a new one.

Do you use your laptop on battery a lot?

It is a good sign that your laptop still boots up with the AC adapter though. At least you don't have a power supply problem. You probably just need to get a new battery.

I don't use my laptop much on battery, I always keep power supply. Battery indicator still shows 100% but can not boot with the battery or cannot continue to run when I remove the power suppy.

It could be a connector issue with between the battery and the laptop. The only way to check for this is to get a new battery and see if it works. If it doesn't there could be a problem with the connection point between the laptop and battery.

You could try removing and reseating the battery, while you have it out you could also clean the contacts on it and on the laptop to make sure you're getting a good connection between them. You could check your model's manual to see if it mentions a battery calibration utility that might fix the problem. If none of that helps, the battery may indeed be dead and need to be replaced. Just from a quick search for Thinkpad 61 batteries it seems like the prices are between abot 55-100 dollars, which is actually pretty good for a laptop battery.

I'm afraid it may be a little late for that utility now. Its battery maintenance features are meant to increase the longevity of the battery, so they're more preventative measures. I didn't see any mention of it trying to recalibrate the battery to get it to hold charge again.

You could use it to see how much remaining capacity the battery has, though. Under Battery Information, it should show the Designed capacity and then the Full Charge Capacity. As the battery wears out, that Full capacity reading will drop. If Full Capacity is less than 60 or 70% of the Designed Capacity, then the battery is nearly worn out. If it's 90% less, it probably needs to be replaced. For example, if it's designed for 80Wh and the current Full Capacity reads 40Wh, then the battery is warn halfway out and will only hold half the power it did when first used.

Could try the "Perform Reset" in Thinkpad Power Manager.

The battery on my T60 did this after about a year. Perform Reset didn't work, couldn't really do anything, I just bought a new battery.
