I hear the 9 cell battery sticks out of the laptop. Is this true. and is there any other battery that sticks out? I want one that doesn't stick out.

The smallest battery never sticks out, but sometimes the smallest one isn't listed until the third page when you're choosing secondary batteries and power adapters.

Make sure you realize how much battery life you'll get with the smaller batteries. Reviews tend to measure life on the larger batteries, so you have to extrapolate a little to estimate a smaller battery's life.

Which model are you looking at?

The 14.1" T61 model battery sticks out with a 6/7/9 cell battery. The 9 Cell battery sticks out an Inch and the 6-cell sticks out 0.5inch. For The 15.4" T61 model only the 9 cell battery sticks out. I am not sure about the 7 cell. I know the 6-cell doesn't tho.

Furthermore, The 14.1" model weights 5.9lbs with the 9-cell battery and that is not including the charger. It is going to weight alot. They currently also only offer 4-cell or 9-cell batteries with the T61 model. Good luck and hope I helped

I saw that in the configurator for the 14.1 t61 -- and then you can buy 6 or 7-cell batteries as an accessory as you walk through the configuration but they warn of ~4 week delays. Which is a kicker since the 4-cell is a little bit too little and the 9-cell is a bit too much. Too Goldilocks for me, we'll see what it looks like when the new T's go public in a couple/few weeks.

Yeah, The batteries are really back logged. You can get the 4-cell standard battery and get the 3-cell ultra bay battery for 50$ more instead of the 9-cell battery. That is not a bad deal since you will be waiting 2+ months to get the other batteries. I sure hope these new T-series will come soon because I have to make my purchase at the end of july/beginning of august

I plan to get a 14.1 inch thinkpad, whether it is T,R, or the upcoming SL. So, only the 4 cell battery will not stick out?

Yeah I am pretty sure that is correct. I am no to familar with the R-series but its almost the exact same as the T-series so I assume that is correct. You can only get the 4 or 9 cell now anyways as an option. Try to consider the ultra bay battery too if you do use the optical drive
