    Dear all,

    My laptop display has died and most likely needs the LCD backlight to be replaced. It is a Thinkpad A31p (model 2653-N4U) 15 inch monitor. I have a few questions -

    1) Is it at possible to do this in India, preferably somewhere in Kolkata ?

    2) Are replacement backlights available in India ?

    3) How much would someone charge, roughly, for the work ?

    Any pointers will be of great help. Will be very very grateful.

    Thanks very much.

    warm regards,

    CC

    Do you know if it is the backlight (tube) or might the problem be the inverter which provides the power to the backlight?

    tech support india ..haha... India is huge man...

    Firstly, you can knock the doors of regional office in Kolkata (they have 1 in kolkata) but again Kolkata (bahut bada hai yaar.)

    Okay, i think it ll be very difficult to get it the backlight replaced especially if the warranty proof is missing which official repair would require
    ....u can do like most of my friends do and take help of 3rd party i.e. computer hardware engineers...basically computer repair shops...easy to find at every corner...kolkata i am not sure as never been to east side..

    What they ll basically do is use spare parts of other laptops.

    Good luck buddy ..thats all i could offer

    I don't see the issue with my simple suggestion. You don't need to lecture me on the size of India. I travel around Asia very frequently, including India. But it is beside the point anyway.

    I suggested the OP to call Lenovo's tech support for India to see if they could suggest a place which could help him.

    @JabbaJabba

    Thanks very much for your suggestion. The warrant is over and if I take it to a Lenovo service center, they will suggest to replace the entire LCD which will be expensive. Thats why I am thinking about getting the backlight replaced by a 3rd party, i.e. small computer repair shops. The only reason I am wondering is that replacing the backlight is more complicated than replacing some other parts and I am not sure if there are people who have the expertise of doing it on a regular basis without screwing the whole thing up. But once again, thanks for your suggestions

    @noctural310

    Thanks for your advice but I would specifically like to know if any of your friends has ever replaced the backlight of the LCD of a laptop. And moreover if so, where did they do it from. Thanks though.
