Hi all. In need of some help/suggestions.

I upgraded my hard drives on my Mac and my T60 this past week with 500GB Seagates. I used Seagates DiscWizard (rebranded Acronis TrueImage) to clone my original T60 hard drive.

    The Mac works perfectly.

My original T60 drive worked flawlessly, but now my Thinkpad crashes all the time with the replacement. I get blue screens and when I restart, sometimes it doesn't even recognize the drive. I'm on my third drive this week. Frustrating.

Any ideas short of doing a clean install? (I really don't want to go down that road - since I didn't get the XP disk from Lenovo - which is also a source of frustration.)

    Thanks

are you sure the disk is ok? Run seatools on it and do a low level scan.

What is the error message on the BSOD screen?

You should be able to make the recovery discs from your original hard drive. Maybe you want to try those on the new hard drive as a way to test if there's something wrong with the drive or the DiscWizard image.

    Thanks for your suggestions.

@ mrjohn - Seems kind of strange that every drive is failing on the Thinkpad and the Mac one is working perfect, but I didn't use Diskwizard on the Mac.I ran Seatools "Long Test." Sometimes it passes, sometimes it fails. I'm now using drive #3 and haven't had a crash for 48 hours. Windows started and repaired some sectors and I'm crossing my fingers.

@scoot1212 I can't quote the error exactly, but something to the effect:
...your hard drive has an error, if this is the first time restart windows, if it has happened before, your disk may be damaged...
Then when I restarted Windows a few times, the BIOS (I believe) couldn't find a bootable drive. I powered off and tried again and it came back.

@Zaz Yeah, that's my last resort. And, by the way, I see your many posts here on the forum and very much appreciate your contributions!

I just have a feeling a Thinkpads are sensitive to hardware changes. There are so many instances of BSODs for various reasons.

There is even a hard drive firmware upgrade released from Lenovo this month to prevent these problems, but my Seagate (5400.6) is not listed. It isn't Lenovo original anyway, so not sure it would help.

Edit: Just downloaded and ran from Lenovo: "Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test" (PC-Doctor) and everything passed. Hmmm.

The drive should work. I don't see any reason it should not unless it's defective. There is also a chance there's an issue with the DiscWizard image.
