i would like to know what OS everyone who is getting the BSOD right out of the box has. is it a problem mainly with xp or vista or maybe with nvidia vrs integrated graphics?

please vote only if you have had a BSOD with a new T61

I'm pretty sure it's a Vista problem and it has nothing to do with integrated vs. nVidia graphics. Your poll is a little simplistic. If you were really curious and wanted to find a trend then create a questionnaire.

    Ask something like...

    1. "What is your OS?"
    2. "Do you have Robson (Intel Turbo Memory)?"
    3. "Do you have integrated or discreet graphics"

    etc.

To create a poll like the one you have now is a little presumptuous and misguided.

john, why do you keep harping on the fact to use the factory load...I disagree it is better than one I can make. Maybe better for some, but not for all.

I do agree with the system update though...very much worth a try to fix BSOD issues.

Exactly. But good idea, nonetheless, Spike.

My bluescreen experience, I don't think, had anything to do with Turbo Memory (I don't have a dock). I think it's Lenovo's ThinkVantage crap software. After my clean install, only installing non-Lenovo drivers (the exception being my UltraNav drivers), my BSOD issues appear to be over.

I should also point out that before I wiped the factory preload junk, I had run system update a number of times, and it never eliminated the blue screen problem.

If Lenovo are installing kernel mode drivers as part of their software, these could be the source of the BSODs.

well i guess i was a bit selfish when i made that poll... i mostly wanted to see if i should expect any problems seeing as i ordered a xpp/nvidia setup. im pretty happy with the results of my poll...

thanks for the input on it, and ill try to make my future polls more informative to the general public.

For a while, they pulled the XP/videocard option and you couldn't even get it that way. I guess you'd also need to know how many people had which configurations for it to be meaningful (i.e. poll all T61 users - if there are way more with one configuration, more BSOD's may not be meaningful).

I just got my T61 today (Live in The Netherlands, ordered in the USA).

I have Vista, Turbo Memory, the nVidia card and it gives BSOD's right out of the box.

My experience has shown that Vista Premium at times (quite often) will perform background operations during a update or install and display a blank black or blue screen. Just check and see if your HDD light is active, if so, Vista is performing some operation and simply coded to go "blank". Sure looks like a BSOD but it may not be.

I've had two hard locks but no BSOD's to date.

Yeah, sure mate. I know what a blue screen is. And it's not what you described...
