In the process of reviving my dead Z61t, thanks again to lead org, my BIOS was reset to default. Having accidentally reset it once before and spending countless hours trying to figure out why I couldn't get my laptop to boot, D'oh, I knew immediately this time when it wouldn't reboot to switch from "AHCP" to "Compatability" mode. I know that and the "Boot sequence" but there are a lot of options in the BIOS and not wanting to play around w/ the BIOS, I'm not afraid to mess w/ the registry or any other settings but the BIOS kind of scares me, what are the more important settings, what do they actually mean/do as opposed to the brief description given when highlighted and what should they be set to?

While on the subject I have avoided updating my BIOS since I have read that you can "Brick" your computer in the process what experience have others had and is it worthwhile?

    TIA

Don't worry, there's nothing in a typical laptop's BIOS that can kill any hardware.

Read the changelog ( http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-65028.html ). If none of the chances apply to your usage, then don't bother updating, especially if you aren't experiencing any problems.
