Out of curiosity what is ur x60's battery life under varying conditions (but personally I only care about wifi off)? Can you really get to 7.5 hrs of life? Does the battery quickly degrade quickly or will you be able to reach 7.5hrs a year from now?

It is 7.5 hours with the screen dimmed to the lowest, wifi off, etc. Some batteries last quite a while while others last only a year, kind of just dumb luck.

The X60 lasted right about 6 hours for me on a medium usage setting (half screen brightness, wi-fi on). That was a brand spanking new battery and an 8-cell. You'll sadly watch charge degrade from month to month if you use it on battery exclusively. If during the day you use battery and nothing else, you'll definitely be replacing the battery within a year.

Thanks for your help guys. Abaxter, your x60s has the Low Voltage core duo, but do you think if I got the regular x60 with an 8 cell my battery life would be significantly less than your 6 hours? Also, what do you think of the lowest brightness setting used to achieve 7.5hrs, is it usable in relatively bright rooms or just a marketing gimmick for them to argue they have 7.5hr battery life? Additionally is medium brightness sufficient for day to day use on the x60?

The battery life would be less on the X60 because it is not low voltage, I'd say 4.5 - 5 hours is more realistic on the X60, although that's based on conjecture and not real use. Medium brightness is certainly usable, and in a dark room low brightness is probably okay -- although you'll always be tempted to crank up brightness to make viewing more easy. If you're like me and in a situation where I know I'll need the battery for a while, turning down the brightness seems like a happy solution to preserving the battery and I'm more than willing to do it.
