    Hi,

I've had my T61 for a couple of weeks. Unfortunately, its now starting to have a popping sound about half a second after any regular sound (ie., after selecting a link, opening a window etc.). This sometimes occurs with either speaker or both at the same time. What's weird is that this only occurs when the T61 is running on the battery.

However, when the T61 is plugged in, all of the sounds are normal and the annoying popping sound disappears. I've plugged in the T61 to external speakers when its running on the battery, and the popping sound returns.

Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a solution? I spoke to a local Lenovo repair site, and they're bewildered by this problem. They're hoping that replacing the motherboard will fix the problem but they're not certain.

Suffice it to say, I'm frustrated and annoyed that this problem has arisen with a brand new laptop that I've had to wait almost a month for.

I had the same issue, but it was on both AC or battery. I resolved it by removing the Lenovo audio driver. When you reboot the system, it loads a generic audio driver (I am on Vista) and using that I no longer get any popping sounds. I think there is a problem with the Lenovo driver so I am waiting until there is a new version before installing it again. Everything seems to be working fine with the generic driver.

I'm getting distortion when recording audio, see other post re distortion/clipping, and also believe there is a problem with the Lenovo audio driver with Vista. There definitely is an issue with poor sound on the T61. It does not record clear audio.

    Thanks ctdw,

I'll try your suggestions. I had followed all of the instructions on the Lenovo site (i.e., upgrading the bios, sound drivers etc.) and it didn't work. The Tech people wonder if its an issue of the motherboard not grounding, but I'm skeptical. I'd hate to go through an entire waiting process to get a new motherboard and installation, just to have the popping sound return.

I'm hoping that its simply a driver issue, but I would imagine that it would affect a lot more than a few people.

I am having the same problem. When I lower the volume to 0 it still makes the pop noise but then when I hit the mute button it goes away. I'm pretty sure its a driver issue because I had it working fine before I did a clean install and only after the reformat did it start doing it.

Ya, mine also only happens while on battery. I wonder if it has anything to do with the battery's software when it lowers performance to save its charge... If you guys have time someone should back up their system that has been popping and then return it to factory settings to see what happens.

I don't think this is lenovo fault.
We all installed vista (rihgt ?)
and if you google this issue you'll spot some posts about Dell & HP having the same issue.
