I had my first thinkpad last November. I am loving it and so do my wife. I am thinking getting another one. Here is the x60 I saw from Kijiji in my city, which I think it is a good deal. Please give me some advises on this X60. Also, when I go to look at it, what aspect should I exactly check for?

    Many thanks in advance!

usually you should look at dead pixels on the LCD, whether there is any cracks on the magnesium case, and preferably take off the keyboard and have a look at the motherboard to see where there is shortcut or residues.

You should also have a look at the battery condition in the battery manager.

from the picture it can be seen that the laptop is well used, while the keyboard seems to be shiny due to the constant wearing through typing.

I have a X60 that i got for 400 AUD, also check whether the CPU is the T2300 and not the T2300E. Download CPU-z or ask for the specific model number.

Also, ask the seller to sign an agreement form that says the laptop is not water damaged.

thanks for quick reply. I will definitely have program to check screen and cpu. He already mentioned the battery is down for 20 minutes. Would you still think 350 canadian a good deal (about the same as US dollars these days)?

How would you persuade the seller to take off the keyboard if you are not buying it for sure?

Also, a question on the water damage. If the computer is working, should I really worried about previous water damage if there was one? what is the consequences of previous water damage?

    Also,

That particular unit seems to have a non-US keyboard. Make sure that's what you want.

Just tell him that you are really interested in buying the unit and would like to keep using it for the forseeable future, and tell him since you are a genuine buyer that it is in the best interest that you are allowed the full inspection of the laptop to make sure everything is alright.

Many water damage may not show up to later dates, so it is your interest to make sure everything is right.

Since you mentioned the battery is run down, it suggests that the previous user is probably a road warrior. You can check from Lenovo.com forum to see whether you are eligible for a free battery swap.

The 350 asking price is quite fair for a sound condition X60
