I hope they keep it forever. That's perhaps the most important reason why I have no/few other places to go than Lenovo. Although Lenovo also makes the best keyboard, and there are other good things, but it's easier to stand a bad keyboard than a glossy screenI prey they'll never follow the crowd and switch to glossy...
-
Business laptops are not glossy, so yes they will keep it.
-
i'm guessing businesses don't really want glossy, so as long as there's no overwhelming demands for it (like replacements for keyboard flex), don't think lenovo would change
-
Yes.
It's one of the main pillars of ThinkPads. -
The bulk of the Thinkpad models will likely stay with matte screens, although it would be interesting if Lenovo began to offer the RGB LED screens (which I believe are all glossy?).
The matte screen was one of my largest reasons for buying a Thinkpad. -
business people didn't like the switch to widescreen either. even wider widescreens are to come, maybe they'll come to business notebooks too.
-
Well for the x200 at least we have an increase in resolution compared to 1024x768...
If they keep making the aspect ratio wider where it begins to cut into vertical space...then I will be mad. -
I hate wide screen, too, just as I hate glossy.
Even wider screens??!!
Horrible! At least give us options--not everyone wants wide, OK Lenovo? My two eyes are going to grow further apart
It already cut into vertical space.
-
As long as the Dell Latitude and HP EliteBook remain matte, so will ThinkPads. However, if both of those switch to glossy then I think the days for matte screens on ALL notebooks are numbered.
Lenovo held on to 4:3 longer than just about everyone else, but eventually even they made the switch to 16:10.
Widescreen is fine if they keep the same basis point as they go wide. However, the tendency has been to go down a grade. The T400 maxes out at WXGA+ while the 14.1" T4x supported SXGA+. The T500 is WSXGA+ while the 15" T60 supported UXGA. In both of these cases both vertical and horizontal resolution were lost. The X series was better treated as it went from XGA to WXGA (and WXGA+ on the x200s/x300). -
Not for the x series - which is what I am using.
-
I think that's stupid of them. The wise thing to do is when all others switch to wide or glossy, you keep them, so that all those desiring these features (and there are plenty plenty) will be only your customers. I'm dreaming to have the 4:3 come back some day
-
I like 16:10, although the poorer selection of LCD panels is another matter. It's 16:9 that I hate.
As for glossy screens, I don't think they will be coming to Lenovo. They're generally included in laptops that are geared towards multimedia and gaming. -
On a desktop, 16:9 is okay since that is usually at least a 1080p, 22-inch+ screen. On a notebook, 16:9 is really bad since it is only 720p, 16-inch+. Working on a glossy screen is irritating.
-
Personally I wish the t400 had a glossy screen option. I prefer those to matte ones.
I hope 16:10 stays, 16:9 is kinda terrible. -
I don't really care whether it's glossy or matte, or standard or widescreen. Just give me a good panel, not the total crap panels we've seen of late, and I'll be happy.
Are you confident that Lenovo will keep non-glossy screen?
