    i have one simple solution:

    - don't get anything if you have doubts. even the best product (not saying thinkpads are) in the world would seem crappy once you get it, if you already have negative opinion about the product.

trust me, jsut get something else, it'll make you "happier"

    - *typing on my t60 with ALPS keyboard and samsung display*

I'm totally agree with you man.
I don't want to buy a thinkpad anymore cuz i'm afraid of getting
bad keyboard, lcd, ect and Lenovo's not gonna replace them because
    it's not defective.
I don't know what the **** is wrong with them. If they want to produce
same parts from more than one company, they have to make sure that
all the parts remain same quality.
It's so unfair that someone's gonna get a better one just because
he/she's lucky. IBM has made a big mistake to sell their PC business to
a Chinese company. I think Chinese companies STILL don't care about the quality and customers as much as Japanese/Korean companies do.

 if you want a keyboard and are that anal about it, but from a source that will give you the real part number, so you can tell if it is NMB or Chicony or whatever

Ok, you guys gotta calm down. First of all, this has nothing to do with lenovo taking over the laptop line. Not only is this (using multiple manufacturers for the same part) something IBM has been doing for years with the thinkpads, but every laptop company does this. If you don't believe me, read up on the inspiron 9300 (i think) uxga fiasco. Chicony, NMB, and alps have been used variously for the keyboards/touchpads for years, and the same deal with the screens.

Is it about being cheap? I dunno, but getting things from different sources is usually just good business sense. I'm getting tired of people blaming lenovo whenever they find anything they don't like about a thinkpad. I have no attachment to lenovo, but people seem to search for any excuse to blame them for something. If you are worried about not getting the best version of the monitor/keyboard/etc, you would be running the exact same 'risk' ordering any computer from any company. It's just how things work.

Also, there may not be that much of a difference between the different parts. People tend to stress the differences, because that's what you do when you compare things. But in actuality, the differences may be slight, and both may be high quality, and better than other companies. It doesn't matter what you get, but there is no '****ty keyboard' and there is no is no ****ty screen.

If you guys are so worried, order a different computer.

There are real noticeable differences between the same parts made by different manufacturers. For instance, the lcd screens are quite different. From my experience, I can easily tell that the keyboards of different mades are really different. While this may not be a concern for what we call "consumer laptop", I beleive it is an issue for Thinkpads. Because we are paying a premium price to get the best quality. And I beleive people have the at most right to question the quality of the material used in such an expensive notebook. I myself have concerns about the lenovo quality. That is something to be decided soon by the customers. But the latest promotions and low prices on thinkpad notebooks made me worry and wonder. I don't think it is fair to compare a dell inspiron and a thinkpad. I could have easiliy bought two dell inspirons that have the same specs as my T60. Why would I or you pay the twice price?

On the other hand, I beleive it is ok to get the same parts from different suppliers provided that those different manufacturers made parts live up to the promise of best quality. We should be comparing the quality of those parts, in my opinion.

Well... I went to tons of different stores that sell thinkpads and i seen the difference... The keyboard (cheap one) is noisy and more error prone :(... The screen = eww.... I HATE YOU THINKPADS (They change the cute mouse buttons etc)

I think the T60 is not going to buy me out (it's a peice of horse junk), the T43 seemed better and cheaper and higher quality.

GO WITH A THINKPAD T 43 or LOWER THESE NEW THINKPADS ARE JUST FRUSTRATING

    Question...

Is this an issue with the X60s as well?

Waterloo I'd say, get something else. Why bother keep creating thread saying Lenovo this, lenovo that... You better off buying from another brand than paying for something that you already hate before owning one.

It seems that Thinkpad can't make you happy anymore while tons of people really like their new T60.

I myself have a X60s and find it perfectly suits my needs.
