my machine is just a few days old. After I installed MS Street and Map, the machine hanged...unable to shut down even by pressing the power button.... and the machine just kept running and going crazy and the produced lots of hot air... and then it gave me this 'shut down to prevent damage' msg and then shut down... later, it also gave me this 'Fan error' msg and then shut down...

I finally uninstalled the Street and Map........I supposed a i7, 4gb machine is supposed to be able to handle a software as Street and map?

now my worry is if the machine is damaged?

Not damaged and shouldn't an issue with Streets and Trips, but sounds like there may be a problem with the fan. Observe it over the next few days.

I bought one of those $225 T60s from Newegg.com and one of the added bonuses (other than the T60 being completely awesome!) was that it came with a 90W adapter. With it plugged in instead of the 65W adapter my i7 X220 performs noticeably better. Benchmarks also prove this out. With a 300 point bump in 3DMark06, a one second bump in wPrime, a 300 point bump in PCMark07 and bumps in WEI for both graphics readings.

If you hold the power button down, a machine should always be able to force-shutdown...? The fan error occurred before boot into Windows, right?
