I just got a Ideapad S12. The touchpad and driver are pretty basic.

I'm coming off an ALPs touchpad that had some pretty nifty features... such as when I clicked both buttons simultaniously I could use one finger to scroll all axises.

Alternatively, I was checking out synaptics website, and they have a video of a bunch of gestures that seem to be pretty handy.

How can I make my touchpad do useful things again?

If you're willing to try Fedora 11 (live usb version available), it supports .... drumroll. ...... multitouch! ie scroll by using 2 fingers on the touchpad.
