I know 3M makes privacy filters and I currently have one for my X200. I'm thinking of picking up a X220 in the near future and I would also like to pick up a privacy filter. Does anyone know if there are any available for this laptop?

You'll just need a 12.5" privacy filter, which shouldn't be too hard to come by. Here's one made by 3M direct from Lenovo, product code 0A61770. And the same filter, sold by ProVantage.

LOL. Maybe laptop manufacturers should start advertising that, "Privacy filter built-in!".

Thanks for the information guys. Is there any point in getting the IPS screen on the X220 if I'll be leaving the privacy filter on 75% of the time?

Depends: What are you doing the other 25% of the time?

But in general, I'd say no. The main point of the IPS screen is the wide viewing angle, and you are intentionally negating that.

Wide viewing angles = one feature, not the whole deal.

The IPS screen isn't just for better viewing angles. The color reproduction is much better and the contrast is much better. Don't skip the IPS screen upgrade just because there's one feature you're not going to utilize out of the many there are.

That's like buying a "dumb-phone" rather than a smartphone just because there's a single feature on the smartphone you wouldn't use compared to the many other features you would use.

"I want an iPhone because of all the games it has, but I'm not going to buy one because I'll never use facetime" = "I want an IPS screen because of the better colors and contrast, but I'm not going to get it because I'll never take advantage of the viewing angles."
