    Hi folks,

I recently bought a 900P LCD here and misread it as a LCD screen for the T420 when it's actually for the T420S: https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/model/IBM-Lenovo/THINKPAD~T420S/

The panel physically fits and connects and sorta works except the colours are messed up. It shows vertical purple lines densely throughout the panel when connected, but you can still kinda see what's on the screen. Windows is able to detect it fine however.

Is this panel defective or is it simply incompatible due to different LDVS pinout or electrical interface between the T420 and T420S screen?

    Thanks

AFAIK, the T420 and T420s screens (HD and HD+) are interchangeable and use the same 40-pin flat data cable.

You may try to reconnect the cable at the back of the LCD. It's rather delicate, and there should be a comforting "click" sound. You may want to put some masking tape on top of the connector to secure the connection.

Also, what you get may be a "compatible" screen and not one that matches "exactly" a Lenovo-sourced screen (by AUO, LG or Samsung).

    Thanks for the information.

I have tried to reconnect the cable several times, but it doesn't change anything.
And looks like you're right, it is a "compatible" screen rather than an original screen. Guess i'll be sending it back then
