Are LENOVO IDEAPAD Y400 parts same for Y410P? I'm looking to buy a back cover and screen bezel for my Y410p. I like to do another paint sceme on my Y410p, purple this time, but want to keep my red one too. Swap time to time. Plus, in case I sell it I have the original cover too. So I'll buy two of them.
Question is, just how hard to get to the cover? The disassembly It looks like you have to take the keyboard/motherboard out too? Quite a job.

Here are more pics of that paint job:

BTW, the POP Ad that comes on from time to time before you can read the forum SUCKS! Part of the reason I don't come on here as much as I use to.

Yep the y400/y410p chassis are virtually identical. The y400 screen assembly can be installed on the y410p, no problem. As for removing it.......... er yeah you have to take the entire laptop apart, as you can see here.

Well, when I inquired about that on a rear cover for a Y400 if it would fit a Y410p:

Lol really now? I wonder how they came to that conclusion. Anyways when I say they are compatible, I speak from the position of someone who has both machines. I don't feel like taking them both apart at the moment, especially since I going to be doing so in the next week or so, but here are some exterior pics of both laptops.

The y400 is on the left/bottom and the y410p is on the right/top.

There you go. As you can see, the chassis on both machines are interchangeable, including the screen display.

Looks like the same fit, but I notice the carbon fiber is a lot more pronounced on the Y400 and it also has it in the keyboard area.

Which carbon fiber looks best, Y400 or Y410? I kinda like the stronger carbon fiber look.

When you do the teardown next week, I'd like to see the pics and results of that if you could post them. Do you have a broken hinge in the Y400? Is that what your fixing?

Thanks a bunch for your help.

Oops I should have mentioned that I put a carbon fiber skin on the y400: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Precut-Carb...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Without that skin both laptops look identical. Anyways yeah the y400 has a broken hinge (as you can see in a couple of the pics) but I'm not taking it apart to fix it, I'm taking it apart to take it's speakers lol. This y410p has some distortion coming from the left speaker at higher volumes, so I'm going to take the y400's speakers.

I'm taking the y410p apart to repaste, install the speakers, a new screen, a carbon fiber skin, and mod the heatsink for better cooling. I'll mod and repaste the 755m ultrabay as well. Just waiting on the replacement thermal pads to get here. I'll show you the before and after, as well as some of the intermediate steps.

I'm looking forward to seeing that! I'm not a novice at taking things apart as I've taken a Lenovo ThinkPad W520 4270 completely apart along with a few other notebooks. See here:

Even if you were a novice, thanks to the power of the internet you could probably figure it out. Nice assortment on your blog by the way, I've seen it before but never committed on it.

So, you get started yet? I'm looking forward to seeing this as I'm gonna take mine completely apart to replace the rear cover, screen bezel, repast the cpu, clean the fan area, remove the 24GB SSD etc.

No I haven't done anything yet. Here's what I'm using for a guide, Lenovo's service videos.

    http://service.lenovo.partner-manag...blic/16538/data/mp4/Y400_Full_Disassembly.zip
    http://service.lenovo.partner-manag...ePublic/16538/data/mp4/Y400_Full_Assembly.zip

Those are direct links to the video files. This is the link to the service information: http://service.lenovo.partner-management.com/content/CourseWarePublic/16538/player.html

The computer being disasembled is the y400, so everything will be same with the y410p. I'll let you know when I've finished, and show you the results.

Looking forward to seeing your results!

BTW, this forum should allow you to delete a post like say one hour from time of post. A lot of forums do this, don't know why they don't here?

Haha no idea, it's rather silly. Almost as silly as the official Bethesda forums limited the number of posts in a thread to #200 because of tradition (in the old days there threads couldn't be any longer than that of technical reasons)

Sorry for the delay mate, I was waiting on some more ordered parts to come in. I've finished with 90% of my computer's upgrades. The only thing that hasn't been touched is the 755M ultrabay, simply because I don't have one yet. Irregardless I'll give you all the detail and lots of pictures soon enough.
