I'm having one hell of an annoying problem with my new t61p and an existing Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse which I used on my t42 with no problems. After my system is idle (still on, no sleep) for about 20 minutes, when I move my mouse or hit a key on the keyboard, neither respond for a good 30 seconds. I see the Bluetooth icon in the system tray disappear, then re-appear, then the USB disconnect/connect noise (sometimes like 3 times), then finally they work again.
This is highly annoying. I'm trying to determine if it's a Lenovo driver issue, hardware issue, or an issue with my Microsoft keyboard/mouse combo being old. I did ensure in Vista Control Panel that the Bluetooth hardware can't be powered down when the system feels like it, and I went into the power manager and made sure nothing funny was going on with the USB settings. I am on AC the entire time.
Anyone else using a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse having any problems or not having problems? Help!

I have had no problem at all with my 3 year old Logitech BT keyboard/mouse on a T61p.

Really? Is there any wake delay after your system is sitting idle for 10 or 15 minutes? (Assuming it isn't going into standby or hibernation or anything)
Mind telling me which device you're using? Maybe I'll buy one. But I honestly suspect it's the Thinkpad. Why would the "USB disconnect" and "USB connect" sounds in Vista play if it wasn't related to the entire Bluetooth module in the computer.
Anyone else using a BT mouse or keyboard with a Thinkpad? -
I'm using a bluetooth mouse (Microsoft Wireless Laser 8000) on the T61 listed below in my sig; no problems.

@mdarter,
Nice taste in laptops. -
LOL. The NW8000 is a nice machine...especially having 3 spindles. The multi-bay with a 2nd hard drive is nice. But the P1.7 is getting a little ancient. I like the screen resolution (1400x1050) on the 14" LCD...I may have to go back to the 4:3 at that resolution when the T61P becomes available again.
But the Santa Rosa is so much faster...you'll love it. Looks like you've got a nice machine on the way. Stick a 7200 drive in there and it screams.

I am using it now. I am currently looking at the 250 GB 5400 rpm units as oppossed to the 200 GB 7200 RPM HD. My HP went crazy, and I am tired of tinkering with it. It never really became slow just unreliable under Vista Ultimate due to some video card quirk.
@OP,
Sorry about the thread jack... -
Hi,
I am using a Dell bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo, and if the keyboard is idle for about 5 minutes, it sometimes takes up to 15 seconds to start working again.
However, the reason I found this thread is that Bluetooth seems to be very messed up for me. Basically, when my keyboard/mouse are on, my wireless (2.4Ghz wireless-B) is completely crap. It basically times out for exactly 50% of the time, during which I see about 1% of my normal wireless speed. Downloading is almost impossible; browsing is not that great either.
Anybody else have this issue? I know Bluetooth is 2.4Ghz too, and it's very aggressive in that frequency (so I've read), but I haven't quite found anybody else that have this issue.
Anyone? -
Hi Wisdom,
Maybe not very usefull to you, but as you asked:
When travelling I am using a Microsoft 8000 Mouse with my T61. No issues.
When at home I am using a Logitech DiNovo keyboard and mouse which is about the same age as your Microsoft one (it was the first one they did in Bluetooth, still very nice). They are linked to the Bluetooth of the laptop, not the mouse charger/receiver. Also no issues.
Laptop reacts to either device within 5 seconds when in screen saver mode. -
I use a Rocketfish BT mouse with my T61p and there is a very tiny lag if I haven't touched the mouse for some time. This lag is usually limited to under 5 seconds and is typically around 2-3 seconds.

My boss was having problems with microsoft bluetooth desktop on his Sony SZ...we gave him logitech and now it is fine Somehow I think it is something to do with a bluetooth stack. For example I find that Microsoft bluetooth stack works better (without a lag) for my Logitech MX5000 desktop, and the stack that comes with Logitech drivers always had that lag...

Hi Wisdom,
I'm using Logitech diNovo keyboard/mouse combo -same as what LucM uses and didn't have the problem you described. It worked quite well with my old T42 (running XP Pro) and T61p (running Vista Ultimate).

I'm using a Logitech V270 Cordless Optical Bluetooth Mouse with the T61. No problems yet.

I'm using the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 with my T61p. Works great.

I have a kensington blutooth mouse that worked great with my V100 that I exchanged for my T61. It lags pretty bad with the T61. I'm going to attempt a call to support soon. Just haven't had time.

I have a logitech bluetooth mouse on my T61p. I don't really notice much issue with the mouse falling asleep and lag to wake up...i'm sure it happens, but it doesn't really bother me.
My biggest issue is that whenever the laptop wakes up from sleep, the bluetooth mouse is not connected anymore and it is a pain to get it going again. I have either had to reboot, or go to Bluetooth Devices (Vista Ult x64), set the *computer* to discoverable, wait a few min to get an "a device wants to connect to your computer" message, enter the pin, and then it is back. Anyone have these problems? Maybe it is just Vista x64? -
I've also been using the Logitech V270 Bluetooth mouse, and I've been very pleased with its performance. A few quirks here and there, but overall it works consistently.

I am using an Iogear bluetooth mouse with my T60 and T61p. Works great under both Windows and Linux(Ubuntu).

Thanks for all the replies, folks!
After much frustration, I have switched to a Logitech VX Nano mouse with it's own wireless USB dongle (it's tiny) plus the Logitech De Novo Bluetooth keyboard. So far, it's working okay. Must admit, the mouse is FAR better with Logitech's proprietary wireless than Bluetooth.
Anyone using a Bluetooth keyboard OR mouse on a t60/t61/t60p/t61p ?
