I just completed a fresh install of Windows XP on my X30. I decided to install the ThinkVantage programs that came preinstalled on the notebook. Even though the ThinkVantage programs added more processes and used up more memory, I was surprised it didn't really slow down my computer. The programs are actually pretty useful.

I'm curious if anyone actually uses the ThinkVantage Client Security program. I completed the setup wizard, so it changed my login screen to a Lenovo one. Is the Windows Login screen not as secure or something? I've disabled XP Welcome Screen and Fast User Switching already.

Also, what's this security chip that's supposed to be inside certain Thinkpads? Apparently my X30 doesn't have one since it doesn't allow me to enable it in BIOS.

All the ThinkVantage programs that my computer supported has been installed except for Rescue and Recovery. It was a 400MB download so I wasn't sure if it was worth it or not. Should I install it, and will it bog down my system?

From Lenovo's ThinkPad site: "To further enhance security, select ThinkPadĀ® and ThinkCentreĀ® systems also include an embedded chip called the Trusted Platform Module (TPM). ThinkVantage Client Security Solution works in conjunction with this chip to manage encryption keys and processes."

After a clean wipe of XP on my T60, the first thing I installed back on was the R&R, fingerprint login, thinkpad update, and the thinkpad key controls. While it adds a few processes, like the OP I noticed no slowdown, and really enjoy the added utilities.

I dont use TPM. The ONLY ThinkVantage products/services I use are:

    Power Manager
    System Update
    Active Protection System (HDD)
    Access Connections
    ThinkPad Configuration
    ThinkPad OSD.

I dont use CS or RNR at all. I love it. Runs very lean, fast, and stays up to date just the way I like it ;)
