I saw a p500 at best buy. I assume its their version of the z500. Does anyone know the difference? Specs looks very similar. Wondering about heat....an i7 in a z580 gets pretty hot.....how will a notebook that is 25 percent thinner handle heat?
    Thoughts ? :)

I am going to reply to my own post as I tracked down some answers. The P500 is looking to me better and better as best buy has dropped the price to $699 as compared to $729 for the lenovo z500. In addition....the P500 comes with a backlit keyboard (I confirmed that at the store) while the z500 may not. I say may not as my live chat with a lenovo agent said only the y series has backlit keyboards. I am not sure that is right and also lenovo's own description of the z500 says it has an optional backlit keyboard and an optional blu ray player. Neither of these are showing up as purchase options on the lenovo website (probably because it is a new line).

Despite having the speakers on the bottom.....the sound doesn't suck as long as you are on a hard surface. Someone on a lenovo forum complained about his unit getting hot but while playing the p500 at the store it was cool when doing ordinary web surfing. Another positive is the trackpad...seems to work well and doesn't require a lot of pressure. On the negative side.....has the sealed battery that is only a 4 cell so probably won't last that long. Taking off the entire bottom of the unit to get to the memory doesn't look too hard....maybe ten screws. Speaking of memory...lenovo says max 16gb as many other units (mostly with win7) max out at 8gb.

Needless to say I am disappointed that Lenovo doesn't appear to know what they are selling. I want a blu ray drive but customizing the z500 doesn't allow you to really customize anything except to add peripherals and junk to your order. What happened to real customizing?
