Ubuntu worked better out of the box better than Windows 7 on my x200s, wireless was inconsistent and laggy on Windows 7, perfect on Ubuntu.

On the negative side, Ubuntu idle's at 18 watts (after running powertop)...Windows 7 at 5 watts, pretty much the deal breaker. Although, this was with Compiz and running off an SD card =P.

So an SD card will suck more battery? Will a 7200 RPM drive suck more than a 5400RPM drive?

Well running off SD cards prevents your USB controller from going to sleep, because it needs to read the SD card. Yes a 7200 RPM consumes more power, but I would say only about 5% more.
