I am gathering information on rather or not if the x220 i7 processor suffer from the i5 CPU whine when on batter or AC. Please let me know if you can check and hear if your CPU whines when in usage as I am debating rather or not if this is only affected on the i5 processor line.

    Thanks again!

no whine on my i5-2537M regardless of power plan.   i still have my full range of hearing and was tested earlier in the year.

before giving up and returning or exchanging your system, you might want to check your BIOS settings for CPU power management and test various settings to see if the noise subsides.

Disabling CPU power management kills the battery life sufficiently.
