I was often looking for a Lenovo type laptop to buy but always ended up disappointed. The GPUs used are often very low-end even though they may have optimizations for long rendering times, staying cool and stable etc. However I wished there really was a W550 with a stronger/consumer GPU available with at least a 960m GTX option available.
Of course Lenovo has the Y50 gaming series, but in my humble opinion these laptops look buttfuck ugly and less robust than the other W-series. So there goes my question if anyone knows if some proper GPU enhancement is planned in the future?

Due to the power requirements/consumption, and cooling, even the 960m requires a 15" minimum and thicker framed laptop. This is not ThinkPad territory. Although the 840m perhaps 940m might make its way into a ThinkPad, I doubt if even a 850/950m would make its way to this line. Let alone a 960m. Those are straight gaming graphics cards, and most often tied with quad core full wattage chips. ThinkPads are all about business, and only recently started tieing in lower wattage gaming cards for the business person on the go, that might want to play a few rounds of Diablo 3.
What your asking for is a gaming graphics card, with requirements of a gaming laptop. This is not the ThinkPad line. -
You need to wait few months for the next release to see what they offer in the W series, without the 's' at the end, the W550s uses a low performance CPU and GPU for better battery life.
Latest available is W540/W541, and it has the Nvidia Quadro k2100m, which is close in performance to Nvidia GTX 750m
Anyone knows if Thinkpad comes with 960m ?
