I have a 9-cell on my T400. While superb for battery life, it is heavy and bulky. Sometimes I take my power adapter and could use the 4-cell and travel light(er).

It seems there aren't any for less than $100 (even $140 some places).

The 6-cell retails for that, maybe even lower. Seems no one is interested in the 4-cell.

    Any ideas?

This one should work ($63). It's listed for a T61/R61 but I believe the T400 uses the same batteries (double check the FRU in the maintenance manual before ordering). I ordered a replacement T40 battery from CalCellular in the past and they are reputable.

    wow! you guys are great.

how do third party manuf. rate, though? I would not care for a cellphone, but a laptop battery, say, caught on fire, is a honkin` piece of fleshmelter. Anyone use one of these?

great links... thanks. I'm also considering a 4-cell for the same reason -- I rarely need more than a few hours of juice because I'm nearly always working on AC.

And I bet the 4-cell with my T400's P8800/Vista will give me the same time as the 6-cell on my T61 with T7500/XP.

If you can get the genuine battery within the same price range... buy it.

But usually the 3rd party ones are half off to 1/3rd of the price.

on eBay, check the feedback. One seller in Hong Kong has almost 10000 sales and 99.4% positive ratings, at 50%-66% off the genuine battery, I think it's a good deal.

Some users do not know what is genuine or not and still rate well. Put it this way: if it is too good to be true, it is.

Just because it is not genuine does not mean it is not good.
