Just wondering if anyone has the 160Gb 7200 rpm drive in their X61(s). Are there any issues with heat, noise, battery consumption? Trying to decide between that and the 5400 rpm version before I make my purchase.

The X61 is always going to seem hotter due to its thinness. The 7200RPM drives I've used don't seem any hotter than the 5400RPM drives.

The main thing that people complain about in heat wise on the X61 is the WLAN card, even though they assume it's the HDD. I have the 7200RPM 100GB and it's fine, my right palm rest like I said earlier gets warm but that's because of the WLAN.

Atheros, I'm probably gonna pick up an Intel 4965AGN sometime because I found that the other WLAN antenna is just sitting there :D

Very interesting, so do you think the Atheros produces more heat than the other two Intel cards?

I have the Atheros card, but in a T61 chassis. I don't have any heat emitting from any unexpected places. I haven't opened up my laptop, so I don't know where it's located.

T61 but no heat issues whatsoever with the 7200 RPM. Vista is slow enough. You need the faster HDD. The Intel ABGN is poor range IMO compared to an older card in one of my Dells. Don't know if its the antenna or the T61 chasis or the card istelf but irregardless I feel that the range and reception could be better IMO.

Does anyone know if the 160Gb 7200rpm drive uses perpendicular read/write like the 160Gb 5400rpm one does? And has anyone done any battery life comparisons between the two?
