I'm hoping for some advice from Lenovo owners, since I'm new to the brand. I'm looking at two separate versions of Lenovo's Ideapad z710, one with an i5-4200 and 6GB RAM, one with an i7-4700 and 8GB RAM. All the other specs appear identical (17.3" 1920 x 1080 screen, 1 TB HDD, GT 745M GPU). I'll be using the computer for work, photo and music storage/editing, surfing the net, and light gaming (e.g., Civilization V). The GPU is probably more than I need, but I'm insistent on a 17.3" 1920 x 1080 laptop, and these look like good ones for a good price.
Does anyone have any experience with the z710 in particular? I'd also appreciate advice on the i5 6GB vs. i7 8GB decision. The price difference is relatively negligible - the i5 is 730 and the i7 is $800. Ordinarily, $70 for both the CPU and RAM upgrades would be a no-brainer, but I'm a little concerned about battery life and heat issues. I know I won't get miraculous battery life from any 17.3", but I'm hoping for at least 3 hours. FWIW, both models say they last 4 hours. Anyone have any advice on the matter?
Thanks!!!
