Put it into sleep this morning and awoke it around an hour ago. Trying to listen to some music, but sound is not coming out. Already restarted. Already checked the volume. Don't know if it's drivers, so I just wanted to ask if anyone else had this problem.

I can't say enough bad things about the audio divers on the T61P. I'm not at all impressed with the audio chip. Lenovo needs to dump that chip, and get something better, but instead they will just quote from the big book of "I'm going to pretend my customers only use their computers for spreadsheets."

Same problem for me with my 10 day old T61 running Vista Business 32.

Turned up physical volume button to max, checked that mute is not enabled. Turned up software mixer to max for all devices. Updated drivers.

    No love.

Finally, went to "Sound" in the Control Panel.
"SPDIF Interface" was set as default.
Clicked on "Speakers" then the "Set Default" button. "OK" to close.

Fired up media player and it seems to work fine now. Only problem is that the green status message that appears at the bottom of the screen when manually changing volume levels doesn't work any more.

Anyone smarter than me want to explain why this worked and what the SPDIF Interface is for? I'm thinking that new install of software with Logitech wireless mouse/keyboard may have gummed things up? This is my first Vista experience. So far, not great!

Same thing happened with me as well on Vista 32. I hibernated, and when I came back sound was not working. Checked through all the settings, and could even seen that when a media file was playing that the sound was being detected. I checked and the speakers were still defaulted, not the SPDIF. I downloaded the latest drivers from lenovo (was still the same version I had) and no luck.

One weird thing I noticed is that when I unplug the power, I still hear the notification. If I have a media file playing, I will hear it for the split second whenthat noise comes through
