I know a bunch are in the same boat as I am where you order vista basic because you already have a legit copy of vista you bought elsewhere...
I seem to remember there being a clause in the EULA that if you dont agree to the terms of the license you can return it to the vendor (in our case Lenovo) and they are contractually required to give your money back for it. Is this still in Vista as it was in XP?

I think I saw somewhere someone got their money back from Dell to install Linux, but it was long process. Probably not worth the trouble unless you're really frugal. You will lose the use of the ThinkVantage button when you do a clean install if you care.

What if all the Thinkvantage is installed later? Anyway to use the blue button at all?
-
After installing all the thinkpad utilities..i belive the thinkpad button is restored
-
What is Lenovo's valuation of Vista and how exactly do they take it back?
For me it's not worth the $30-$50 (total guess at value) even if I did have another copy of Windows. -
Buying from Dell, you can still recieve money back. I'll be giving it a shot as soon as I get the notebook. It shouldnt be such a hard process though.
You should be able to get ALL functionality back after installing thinkpad drivers/software. There are no buttons that shouldnt work. -
That would be incorrect.

OT: He's somewhat correct. The Thinkvanatge button does work while in the Windows OS after reinstalling the Thinkvantage Productivity Center. BUT, it does not solve the problem with the Thinkvantage button prior to the OS booting and you're trying to access the Rescue and Recovery application.
Anyone ever tried getting money back for Lenovo for Vista?
