I've perused the forums here, and haven't seen anybody's definitive ability to find that they indeed have the LED backlight just based on system information, cross-referenced with anything.

They can see things on the order that indicate it does, but nothing in the machine itself.

Has anyone ever been able to find a way, based only on information the computer itself provides, what kind of backlight they have?

One way might be by seeing how many brightness levels there are. I believe one feature of the LED backlight is more intervals on the brightness scale, I'm not positive about that, so maybe someone else can verify that. My LED backlight (I assume it is backlight) has 15 increments of brightness. It's not direct system info, but it might work for what your trying to see.

You could try use PC Wizard 2008 or EVEREST to see if you can get the serial number and look it up on google.

I can tell because my wattage use goes down to 7-10. That would be impossible on a CCFL screen.

That is mine, and I have the 15 levels of brightness.

Still don't have corroborating evidence that that means it's LED, tho'. :)

Unless TLB means TFT LED Backlit. I wouldn't be surprised if it does.

I'm not really sure what the concern is. Do you think there is a conspiracy to make extra-bright backlights that look identical to LED backlights but actually are not LED backlights? ;) If you put a supposed LED backlight next to a non-LED backlight it is pretty clear what it is.

It's only because the screen doesn't appear super-bright to ME, compared to other non-LED laptop screens I've seen. I do not know anyone who has a non-LED screen of this model to compare it to.

There *is* a store downtown however that carries some Thinkpads, now that I think of it. I'll bring mine down there to compare.
