Anyone clean install XP on your T60? How did it go?

On my R40, I normally save the folder with all of the drivers that the ThinkVantage Software Installer uses, Clean install XP, then put the folders back on my harddrive, install just the drivers I want and leave everything else so my machine is clean (I also repartition to free up the wasted space on the "recovery" partition).

Is it basically the same deal with the newer machines, and particularly the T60?

Any suggestions before I do this? I have read on the forums it is a good idea to create restore discs from the partition first. I will try to find directions on how to do this and do it first. But any other suggestions/cautions/etc?

Thanks. I can't wait to open up the box!

I've created the disks as well as copied all the folders to my exernal hardrive. Then reinstalled XP, getting rid of their hidden partion and everything else. After installing XP, I've reinstalled most of the drivers from
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62928
And few things I could not find on there (like DVDCreator), I have reinstalled from the folders I've copied to my external drive.

I just wiped the drive and got the drivers later. I didn't install 1/8 of the thinkvantage stuff, just the shock protection and the OSD thing... As far as other programs go, I have my own preferences.

    Teranfirbt,

We you able to get the shock software through the thinkvantage software, or did you search on the Lenovo site?

    Thanks!

I downloaded the drivers for the wired network card on my desktop, put them on a USB flash drive, then downloaded the thinkvantage updater program which works kind of like windows update... It went through and downloaded all of the drivers I need and also went through and let me download the other programs I needed (shock protection, fingerprint reader, etc).

You can download drivers here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?brandind=0&machineind=0&modelind=0&template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FdownloadsDriversLandingPage.vm&validate=true
just provide the info for your specific model. a driver matrix is also available on the same resulting page... hope this helps! :)

You cannot download applications, only updates to the apps.
