I'm in the process of purchasing a new notebook and would appreciate some advice. Although I consider myself an educated customer (subscribe to a few PC mags, read a lot online), making some of the hardware choices for a new system isn't so easy.

I've decided on either the Dell Latitude D830, Lenovo ThinkPad R61 or ThinkPad T61. I'll most likely go with XP Professional for the O/S. I like the Dell XPS M1530 a lot and, if I decided to go with Vista, it would be at the top of the list.

My first decision is the CPU- On the Latitude, I'd choose between the T7500 (2.2GHz/4mb L2) and the T9300 (2.5GHz/6mb L2), the T9300 costing an additional $80. On the ThinkPads, it would be between the T8300 (2.4GHz/3mb L2) and the T9300 for another

I also want discrete graphics and have the choice between 128mb and 256mb

What is your actual question?

To answer your thread question: yes. I'm sure someone has bought an IdeaPad.

I have a new IdeaPad Y510. Lenovo has added all the XP drivers to their support website, so XP goes on just fine.
