    Hi everyone

i currently have a t20 (which i love - everything about it is good -except its piling on the years now).

I am thinking of the t40 or any laptop that is thin , maybe a 14.1" widescreen, but i keep coming to the t40.

my budget is up to 300 pounds which would accept a 2nd hand t40 nicely (unless anyone know of a good 2nd hand 14.1" in that price)...

could anyone, who has used both, compare the two for me?ie t20 and t40? is the t40 larger/longer/thicker/heavier than t20?

cant seem to find anywhere where it compares.

the t20 is on the limit of what i would call too big (i like 12.1"'s) and i dont want to go over it, if the t40 is, i will not be getting it...

thanks! hope to hear from you all!

    The T40 is a 14" notebook.

ZaZ , yes i know. what i meant to say, is, i wouldnt mind the t40 (14.1") if its not bigger than the t20...

ideally, i use 12.1" machines (like c400, d400), but i wouldnt mind a 14.1" t40 if its not bigger (framewise) than a t20 . thats why looking for someone who's actually used both to do a small comparison for me.

    thanks!

This is dusting off the cobwebs a bunch, but I've had a T20 in the past, and I have a T42 at the moment. If the T42 is larger, it's a very small difference.

Just out of curiosity, I grabbed the following info from Lenovo's web site. As you'll see, the T40 is 0.2 inches larger in terms of width and depth when compared to the T20, but quite a bit thinner and a little lighter. Hope this helps.

    T20 Physical specifications
    Width: 304 mm (12.0 in)
    Depth: 250 mm (9.8 in)
    Height: 33.1 mm (1.3 in)
Weight: 2.1 kg (4.6 lb) with Li-Ion battery pack and weight saver bezel only
Weight: 2.35 kg (5.2 lb) with Li-Ion battery pack, and DVD drive
NOTE: ThinkPad T20 weight is approximate.

    For T40, it says:
    Physical specificaitons
    System:
    Width: 311 mm (12.2 in)
    Depth: 255 mm (10.0 in)
    Height: 26.6 mm (1.0 in)
Configured system weight (with DVD-ROM or CD-ROM):2.22 kg (4.9 lb)

The t40 series adds the touchpad that the t20 does not have, which makes it slightly larger, but not much as you can see in grommal's post. The t40 series can get significantly larger if you get the 15" screen though.
